Welcome to Baking it Up to You!

I am so excited to have you here! My name is Shilpika and I LOVE to bake. Since a very young age, I have always been curious in the kitchen – sitting on the kitchen bench top, observing everything while mum creates delicious meals and treats for my sisters, dad and I – whether on the stove top or in the oven (thank you for all the priceless lessons, Momma!). There’s always been something fascinating to me about incorporating a variety of raw ingredients together to create a delectable little masterpiece that is your own. The flavours, the process and the science behind baking have always had me intrigued. And FOOD! Who doesn’t love food? There’s so much joy to spread with food and almost always a story to share behind food. People who love to eat are my favourite kind of people and I’m guessing that’s why you’re here so I have a strong feeling that we’re going to get along just fine!

Although I thoroughly enjoy cooking savoury meals, baking sweet treats has always been a creative outlet for me (not to forget to mention the insatiable sweet tooth I have, constantly fuels my inspiration to bake!). I am always thinking about what to bake next and how to add my own creative spin to it – a lot more than I’d care to admit! You should also know that I have an undeniable love for dark chocolate and an unhealthy fondness for cookie dough (one does not simply bake cookies without eating the dough).

While I strongly believe in sustaining a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle, I also believe in enjoying ‘the real thing’ when it comes to treats, desserts and snacks (in moderation of course and dietary requirements permitting) – and this will be reflected in the recipes that I share with you. No ‘sugar free’ or ‘zero calorie’ shenanigans… Only the real deal. Because life is made to be lived and if you aren’t living to EAT, are you really living? 

I am a self-taught, home baker looking for a platform to share recipes I have grown up with, recipes inspired by my favourite cafes/restaurants, magazines and fellow food-bloggers. My aspirations with this blog are to learn, create, share these recipes with you and develop more along the way. I am not a professional baker by any means but that’s what I love about baking and cooking – you don’t have to be to whip up something delicious.. If you can read, you can cook!
